1963 Plymouth Valiant: The Prince Of Cars

http://hotrodhotline.com/feature/2004show/04clay/assets/images/db_images/db_Ann_Webb__1964_Plymouth_Valiant.jpg

Have you heard about the Prince of Cars? Aha, it’s the Plymouth Valiant! This awesome ride is among the most admired sedans in the United States for almost two decades. It was initially launched as a 1960 model - the period when Detroit was reviving the small car segment. The Valiant received various efficient slant-six engines and striking stylings. Oh yeah, the Valiant is absolutely a sweet little ride that offers not just clean floor mats, but the best overall convenience, styling and performance.
The Valiant endured four generations, whipping famous alternates such as the Barracuda and the Duster and soon it was substituted in 1976 by the Plymouth Volare. The Valiant was also a big hit in foreign countries. Plymouth was actually a component of Chrysler during the early 60s. And here’s another trivia for all of you - the Plymouth Valiant starred in various Hollywood films! Yes it’s a fact! Check out the films below that featured the Prince of Cars:
    * Carry On Again Doctor (1967 Barracuda)
    * Duel (1970 Valiant)
    * Vanishing Point (1970 Dodge Challenger R/T)
    * Marathon Man (1970’s Valiants)
    * Christine (1968 Valiant)
    * L’homme aux yeux d’argent (1967 Valiant Signet)
    * D.A.R.Y.L. (1967 Valiant Signet)
    * Born on 4th July (1966 Valiant 200 Wagon)
    * Batman (1970’s Valiants, also Volare)
    * Jack the Bear (1962 Valiant)
    * Matilda (1961/62 Valiant)
    * Private Parts (1968/69 Valiant)
    * My Favorite Martian (1961 Valiant)
    * Cry Freedom (1967/68 South African Valiant)

The 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Is A Star

There’s one classic car that has been my fascination lately - it’s the 1969 Chevrolet Camaro! From the day it was first introduced in 1967 as new model year on a brand new rear-wheel drive using a GM F-body platform, the Camaro was absolutely a hit during that era. At the start, the Camaro was advertised on the top 40 radio stations of the day so as to promote this vehicle to the young adult market.
The 1969 Chevrolet Camaro with its share of perfect Chevy body parts was available as a 2-door, 2+2 seating, coupe or convertible with a choice of inline-6 and V8 power plants. The first-generation Camaro would last until the 1969 model year and would finally inspire the design of the new retro fifth-generation Camaro.
During the first week of July, the 1969 Chevrolet Camaro has once again resurfaced… in the spotlight! What I meant about this is that the Camaro starred in a movie entitled The Transformers movie! I guess everybody have seen this awesome flick during the opening week! Yeah, I am one of the million fans who watched the Transformers on its premiere night! This movie is absolutely a blockbuster hit! And maybe is the movie of the year!
Anyway, going back to the Camaro, this car played a remarkable role in the movie as Bumblebee - the friendliest and one of the greatest soldiers of the Autobots. Actually, he was one of the key characters who brought color to the story.
Some scenes on the movie proved that the 1969 Camaro still got the power and the right stuff in it! After a hot pursuit and a clash with one of the Decepticons named Barricade (a modified Saleen Ford Mustang Police Car), the Camaro is invincible! Impressive indeed! But later on, he emerged as the 2009 Chevrolet Camaro concept car after he was called as a “piece of crap” by Sam’s girlfriend!

Porsche Cayman: Review!

Porsche Cayman
Here's one of the first reviews of the new Cayman.
First Opinion
Despite subtle styling differences, the new Cayman is every bit as desirable as the highly muscular S. It’s just as good to drive, loses little visual impact and is sure to hold on to its value. The small performance sacrifice isn’t something every driver will want to make, but for Porsche fans who are on a budget, the Cayman’s lower price will more than make up for it.

Timing is everything when it comes to successful car launches – so why has Porsche chosen to unleash its entry-level Cayman now? After all, the company says sales of the flagship Cayman S are double what was expected. Also, the model cleaned up at this year’s Auto Express New Car Honours awards, easily winning the title of the UK’s best sporting car.

However, Porsche claims that the base Cayman will only serve to extend the appeal of the machine. Described by the manufacturer as cheaper but no less thrilling, the newcomer aims to bring the car to a wider audience.

Boasting a 2.7-litre engine, it may be the entry-level model but, on the road, it has lost none of its bigger brother’s bite. And at £36,220, it is a whopping £7,755 cheaper, too – which puts it firmly in the territory of the Mercedes SLK and BMW Z4 CoupĂ©.

Porsche Cayenne: New Model Breaks Cover!

Porsche Cayenne
Here are spy images of the facelifted Cayenne. Don't be fooled by all the taping on the back, if you look closely, you can see the adjusted tailights.
Our spies caught the sporty off-roader being put through its paces in Germany with a minimal disguise. And while changes to the metalwork have been kept to a minimum, buyers will still get distinctive styling when the big off-roader goes on sale.

The most signifcant alterations are to the nose, where new headlights and a more aggressive front bumper, complete with wide-set foglamps, appear.

Another less obvious change with the nose is the increased overhang ahead of the front wheels, giving greater protection to pedestrians in the event of an accident.

Meanwhile, at the back, there's a fresh bumper, the lights are resculpted to give a sharper look, and a neat roof spoiler also makes an appearance.

Improved interior trim and subtle tweaks to the suspension to boost handling are also expected. The high-performance SUV is set to hit showrooms later this year.

Suzuki Splash – Light Car Segment Heating Up

he Suzuki Swift has been an enormous success for the Japanese brand, capturing the same audience that Hyundai managed in the 90s with the Hyundai Excel, the Suzuki Swift has successfully brought Suzuki back into the Australian market.
Suzuki Splash
But how will Suzuki follow up the swift? With the SX4 making its way in June, Suzuki’s new model is expected to sit below the Swift. Currently dubbed as the Suzuki Splash, the new model is based on the swift platform.
Recently we reported that holden is considering a light-car, the new Daewoo Matiz. If Holden’s plans go through the Splash will go head to head with the Korean.
More details will be released at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. However from what do know, the European made splash will have six airbags and an electronic stability program (as standard).
Suzuki Splash Rear
Suzuki plans to offer three different engines, two petrol and one diesel – no automatic will be offered, all variants will be driven via a 5-speed manual. While we can’t confirm if all engines will make their way to Australia, there is no reason to think otherwise.
  • One-litre, three-cylinder, (12-valve) 48kW
  • 1.2-litre, four-cylinder, (16-valve) 63kW,
  • 1.3-litre, (16-valve) diesel 55kW
Although the Swift is made in Japan, the splash will come from, wait for it, Hungary. Thats not the end of it though, Magyar Suzuki (Hungary) will be producing the petrol versions, but the diesel engines will comes from India.
Will the Splash enjoy the same success as the Swift in Australia? Will Holden bring out the Matiz to compete? The next 12 months are set to shape the light-car segment for some years to come.

Honda and Ford has the lowest complaint ratios for any large manufacturer

By Mark Kleis

2010 will likely go down in history as one of the most historic years in the automotive industry, with major shifts in paradigms, safety legislation and global alliances. Of the most memorable events will likely be the seemingly endless string of safety recalls that plagued Toyota, and as a result the number of complaints logged by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration were driven to a record high of over 40,0000 valid complaints.

By mid-December of 2010, NHTSA had already received complaints across all automakers totaling over 40,000, which is four times more than previous years based on analysis by Edmunds and The Los Angeles Times. The same data showed Toyota leading with the most complaints of any automaker with nearly a quarter of all complaints.

Toyota’s complaints per 100,000 vehicles climbed from 37 in 2009, to 87 in 2010. The second worst offender was Nissan, logging 62 complaints per 100,000 vehicles sold, followed closely by Volkswagen with 58 complaints. The overall industry average came in at just 47 complaints per 100,000 vehicles sold – a figure bumped from just 30 the previous year.

Ford and Honda had the lowest complaint ratios for any large manufacturers in the U.S.

Honda Customers Affected By E-Mail Hack

Honda doesn't request personal information online, so, DO NOT supply any if you recieve a email from Honda recently.
Just the Facts:

American Honda says thieves have hacked 2.2 million customers' personal data.

Names, e-mail addresses and VINs are among the data, but no financial information.

A second list of 2.7 million Acura owners was also stolen but included e-mail addresses only.

TORRANCE, California — It sounds bad, but perhaps it's not as bad as it could have been: American Honda has notified 2.2 million customers that a list including e-mail addresses, VINs and login information has been stolen by unknown hackers. Company officials say the list didn't include Social Security numbers, birthdates, bank information or other data that would leave people vulnerable to identity theft.

The Columbus, Ohio, Dispatch reported that the list belonged to an outside vendor who was using it to send "welcome" e-mail messages to customers with OwnerLink or MyAcura accounts. Reportedly, 2.7 million Acura owners were on a separate list that was also stolen, but that one had only e-mail addresses on it.

American Honda contacted its customers to apologize and remind them about the possibility that bogus e-mail could come to them asking for private information. Owners can get more information on this FAQ page.

New Car: 2011 Ford C-Max (U.S)

Ford has revealed the U.S spec C-Max compact MPV. Designed in Europe and underpinning the Focus platform, the C-Max will premier at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS).

Designed for young families, the long-wheelbase C-Max has an expressive, dynamic exterior that shuns conventional people-carrier styling. Optional equipment will include a hands-free bootlid (you put your leg under the bumper and it opens), panoramic glass roof, park assist, keyless entry & start, front & rear parking sensors, leather interior w/heated front seats, rear-view camera w/satellite navigation system, and keyless entry.

On the inside, the C-Max sports a ‘5+2’ seating plan, with the 2nd row of seats that slide back and forth. For easy entry into the 3rd, the 2nd outboard seats tip-and-slide forward. The middle seat in the 2nd row can be folding to create a walk-through to the rear seats. If the 3rd row seats are not needed, they can be deleted on the options list.

Under the bonnet will be two petrol engines. An entry-level 2.5 litre iVCT 4-cylinder producing 168bhp (170PS) and 226Nm (167lb-ft) of torque and a 1.6 litre Ti-VCT EcoBoost 4-cylinder engine, pumping out 180bhp (183PS) and 234Nm (173lb-ft) of torque. Both engines will be linked to a 6 speed automatic transmission.

Toyota Land Cruiser sales soar (UK)

Toyota UK has seen sales of its flagship SUV’s, Land Cruiser andLand CruiserV8 rise 120% and 77% over the same period from last year. On the whole, SUV's sales in the UK have been rising. The rocketing sales are most probably due to recent Scandinavian style winter that has battered the UK.

It’s unsurprising to see most buyers choosing the 3.0 litre D-4D, 4-cylinder diesel engine over the 282bhp 4.5 litre D-4D V8 diesel, since the latter returns 27mpg and emits 270g/km.

In 2011, the iconic Land Cruiser will celebrate its 60th anniversary. With more than 6m units sold since launch, the Land Cruiser is available in more than 140 territories and manufactured in nine plants in five countries.

Audi A1 sales slow

Audi dealerships are anxious about lethargic sales of the firms A1premium supermini, and are blaming the models high list-price.

Since its launch in August, Audi has sold 20,000 units. Audi firmly believes deliveries will total 30,000 units by the end of 2010. Compare that to Mini, which has sold 42,000 units within the last three months.

Audi can produce 100,000 units per annum and has already built 45,000 models to this point at its assembly plant in Belgium. Audi has set targets from last January of selling 80,000 A1s in its first year of production.

In Audi’s domestic market, German dealers are crabby about the A1’s price tag of €15,800.

Audi rejects that there’s a sales issue with the A1 but has moved the release of the 5dr A1 to next year from the formerly planned 2012 introduction date, which Audi hopes will boost sales.

Ford offers custom graphics for 2012 Focus (U.S)

Ford is extending their well-liked vinyl graphics program to the 2012 Focus. On a side note, did you know that shows 40% of Millennials (those born between 1980 and 1995) posses a tattoo.

Produced from 3M Scotchprint film, the graphics will be available in 200 designs, starting from $120, rising to $470. While that sounds expensive, Ford dealerships will be fitting them and will include a three-year/36,000 mile restricted warranty.

The Focus brand executive, KC Dallia said "Millennials have a very personalized, artistic side to their lifestyle, and their vehicle is a very important part of that. With its striking front end, sleek profile, dramatic rising beltline and athletic stance, the Focus provides the perfect canvas for customization."

Press Release:

TATTOOS COME INTO FOCUS - LITERALLY - WITH FORD'S HOT NEW SMALL CAR

Tattoos are not just body art anymore; customers will soon be able to express themselves with vehicle tattoos for the all-new 2012 Ford Focus

•Ford Custom Graphics will offer more than 200 unique vinyl wrap tattoos in an array of different colors for the new Focus
•Available in a variety of designs - from geometric patterns and racing stripes to whimsical imagery like splashes and swirls - the Custom Graphics offer the look of custom paint at half the cost

•Ford Custom Graphics are currently available for the Ford Mustang, Explorer F-150 and Fiesta

DEARBORN, Mich., Dec. 23, 2010 - The popularity of tattoos has turned body art into a fashion statement - especially among Millennials - and Ford is taking the trend one step further by offering car buyers a quick and inexpensive way to express themselves with tattoos for the new 2012 Ford Focus.

From geometric patterns and racing stripes to whimsical imagery like splashes and swirls, customers will soon be able to choose from more than 200 unique vinyl wrap tattoos to find a design that reflects their personality

"Millennials have a very personalized, artistic side to their lifestyle, and their vehicle is a very important part of that," said KC Dallia, Focus brand manager. "With its striking front end, sleek profile, dramatic rising beltline and athletic stance, the Focus provides the perfect canvas for customization."

Tattoo trend extends to cars:

According to the Pew Research Institute, nearly four in 10 Millennials have at least one tattoo, and Gen Xers are not far behind at 32 percent.

Sheryl Connelly, Ford Global Trends and Futuring manager, says the migration to vehicle tattoos is a natural progression of the tattoo craze.

"The one-size-fits-all model isn't really relevant to today's consumers, and it's not necessarily a desire to stand out from the crowd. It's more of a desire not to be lost in the masses," she said. "People are personalizing everything - cell phones, computers and clothing - and it's no different with automobiles."

Ford Custom Graphics developed for the new Focus will range in price from $120 to $470 and can beasily removed, providing younger customers with an economical way to "grow with their car," says Connelly.

"People are holding on to their vehicles longer, and the way we identify ourselves today may not be the way we want to express ourselves tomorrow," she said. "Customers can easily change the tattoos as their life situation and style evolves."

Test your creativity with the 2012 Ford Focus

With a few clicks of the computer mouse, customers can choose the exterior color of their Focus, select the tattoos they like and then be able to see exactly how the designs will look on the car.

All of the tattoos are made with 3M Scotchprint® Personalized Vehicle Graphic Film plus a clear graphic protection layer. They are professionally installed at Ford dealerships and include a three-year/36,000-mile limited warranty.

Original Wraps Inc., a provider of on-demand custom graphics to the automotive industry, developed the tattoos and the website for Ford. According to the company's chief executive officer Tom Stemple, the tattoos offer customers the look of custom paint at half the cost.

"Another important benefit is that the tattoos are made to order. We don't manufacture any graphics until they are purchased," said Stemple. "That gives us the flexibility to keep updating the designs to give customers fresh new ideas to choose from."

Custom Graphics are currently available athttp://www.fordcustomgraphics.com/ for the Ford Mustang,

F-150, Explorer and Fiesta. Because orders are processed at individual dealerships throughout the country, there is no way to track how many tattoos have been sold, but consumer response to the site has been strong with an average of 15,000 unique hits per month.

Focus graphics are expected to be online in mid-January.

2012 Ford Focus offers customers more choices at production:

The all-new 2012 Ford Focus, which will arrive in dealerships early next year, will offer customers plenty of choices at production, including four trim series - S, SE, SEL and Titanium - and 11 unique wheel styles.

The vehicle also will be available in 11 exterior paint colors. Four of the choices are premium paints. Tri-coat paints that offer deeper, richer color will be available in White Platinum and Yellow Blaze, and two tinted clearcoat paints will be offered in Red Candy and Blue Candy.

Vehicle Personalization: Ford Custom Accessories make it easy and fun:

The automotive aftermarket has grown into a $34 billion industry. And Ford Vehicle Personalization continues to come out with cool new products - from wheels and decklids to hood scoops, grille inserts and vehicle tattoos - to meet increasing customer demand for accessories.

"The goal of Ford Custom Accessories is to give customers new ways to make the vehicle their own," said Jim Abraham, Ford Licensed Accessories manager, noting that the business of Vehicle Personalization at Ford has grown exponentially over the last few years. "Our accessories are designed alongside our vehicles, so the integration is seamless and reflective of Ford quality."

Honda Stream coming to the U.S

Do you want a stylish minivan that won't break the bank when it comes to purchasing and re-fuelling it, thats compact on the outside but spacious on the inside? Then listen up!

Insiders at Honda, report that they will import the Stream minivan in 2009. It will go head to head with the KIA Rondo and Mazda5. Engines are unknown but reports suggest that the Japanese Stream engines could be used; 1.8 & 2.0 litre petrol engines. An AWD Stream is under review. No 3rd row seats are set to be available for the U.S model but why is it coming 9 years later? Apparently, Honda sees a niché for a smaller vehicle.

Underneath, it shares the same platform as the CR-V and Civic. The Stream launched back in Japan in 2000, where it sold in its thousands, however, when it arrived in Europe, it failed completely.

Michelin tyres to cut 20m tonnes of CO2

Overlook hybrids and stop-start systems, new designed tyres could save up to 20 million tonnes of CO2 in the next five years, claims the world’s largest tyre maker.

Michelin reckons it will sell 100 million of its new Energy Saver tyre by 2012. A set four tyres cuts a car’s CO2 output by 4g/km. The figure could be even higher if buyers of replacement tyres choose low-rolling resistance rubber.

Tyres account for up to 20 per cent of the energy consumption of a vehicle, through heat losses as the tyre deforms under load, commonly called rolling resistance.

The Energy Saver, which was developed with Peugeot for the new 308, uses a new material that combines low rolling resistance qualities with what Michelin claims are grip and wear qualities comparable to regular tyres.

The design is also lighter than the tyre it replaces, cutting mass and consequently reducing heat build up. Michelin claims that it will be able to cut rolling resistance of its tyres by 50 per cent by 2030.

2 Hyundai coupes arrive in 2009 (UK)

 Hyundai will launch two new coupes by 2009. The first will be front wheel drive and will replace the current CoupĂ© SIII. This is be based off the i30 and will look alot like the Veloster. Expect the same radical design, including the shooting brake-style rear end and squat, wide body, although the glass roof may be lost for safety reasons. Engine options will include the 1.6 and 2.0-litre engines also used in the i30, with a diesel model still being considered.

As part of Hyundai’s new brand restructuring, the next CoupĂ© will remain in the same price range as the current model (which starts at £15,700) without compromising the level of quality which has been set by the new ‘i’ cars; it hasn’t yet been decided if that nomenclature will appear on the coupĂ©.

Hyundai is confident that the new, more premium coupĂ©’s price won’t rise because it will not come with a V6 engine option — as the current model does.

The second coupe is likely to be the Genesis CoupĂ©. The plan is to introduce an entirely different, more performance-focused coupĂ© based on the rear-wheel-drive, 350bhp V6 Genesis coupĂ© concept that was unveiled at the 2007 Los Angeles show. This would be Hyundai’s answer to the Nissan 350Z, and would be available with the concept’s V6; the V8 from the Genesis saloon concept is also being considered.

The Genesis coupĂ© has not yet been confirmed for the UK, but Tony Whitehorn, MD of Hyundai UK, maintains that Hyundai “must have a sports car as its halo model”.

The future concept cars coming out these days are just spectacular. Sports cars are out of the range, this is the “Incepto, new design trends and styling language, Azerbaijani designer SamirSadikhov has come up with a sports cars concept that combines luxury and performance in a single vehicle.

Taking the time to imagine, sketch, plan and create a concept is a very high level of communication that most think only scientists or mathematicians can reach.

Fortunately the design world is for the simplicity on this chaotic oblate sphere(Earth). Therefore all the complicated terms have no meaning for the consumer. Words that we like to hear are easy to use, comfortable, efficient, smooth and classy. The design sounds just breathtaking and so are the photos.

Though Incepto has a radical design which is different from many other designs and concept cars there is a portion of impracticality which can be refined for its better secured future.
